Back yard in Morretes: periurban sounds, S Atlantic coastal forest remnants

The ornithos website was set up by Luciano Breves and streams live images of bird feeders in Brazil. Live Cam 1 was the first cam to broadcast live from Brazil on a streaming system. Live Cam 2, which also streams audio, is the second.

The cams are located within a Private Natural Heritage Reserve in Morretes City, Paraná State in Southern Brazil. Morretes is in the middle of the last big continuous area of preserved Atlantic Rainforest.

Luciano Breves is a supporter of international conservation charity World Land Trust, which works with an international network of conservation partners to protect the world's most biologically important habitats and their species. Founded in 1989, the Trust has active conservation projects in more than 20 countries across four continents.

'Luciano is native to Brazil and currently lives in Paraná state. With a background in communication and advertising, Luciano’s interest in birds inspired him to become a wildlife documentary film maker.

'The Atlantic Rainforest is one of the most biodiverse areas on the planet with many endemic species found nowhere else in the world. Unfortunately they are threatened with deforestation, which is occurring at an alarming rate.

'Luciano’s webcams capture the biodiversity of the beautiful Atlantic Rainforest habitat, including live images of Bananaquit, Dusky-legged Guan, Green-Headed Tanager, Green Honeycreeper, Great Kiskadee, Black-throated Mango, Saw-billed Hermit and many others.

'Showing those amazing birds to the world might bring people to fall in love with them and understand the importance of preservation.'

SoundCamp are grateful to Luciano and WLT for their work to improve the audio from Cam 2 for the broadcast.
